Dimensions and calculation

Ends, guides, and tolerances

Support and guidance affect stability, load, friction, and repeatability.

Installation

Define support surfaces, parallelism, internal or external guide, clearances, alignment, and possible rubbing. For compression, a guide can limit lateral motion; it can also introduce contact and wear if clearance is unsuitable.

Functional tolerances

Agree dimensional and load tolerances at defined points, with measurement method and spring condition. Variation depends on material, process, and geometry; a nominal value alone does not describe lot spread.
