Materials and environment

Material affects rate, strength, manufacturing, and environmental behavior; selection requires service context.

Modulus is not strength

Elastic or shear modulus describes the stress-strain relationship in an elastic range. It does not by itself give ultimate strength, allowable stress, or fatigue life. Calculator reference values support rate estimates, not capacity certification.

Service environment

Temperature, corrosion, moisture, cleaning, contact with other metals, and process requirements can change material selection. Confirm the actual medium, exposure, temperature, and surface requirements with engineering and the supplier.
